Was it from his Aquilonian advisors, Publius and Trocero, themselves raised in the traditions of Aquilonian governance? Did those men somehow discover a new way of doing things? Unlikely; Conan’s method seems foreign to Aquilonia. One might even say “barbaric”.
...(for a Hyborian); the 1st time to say “eh maybe” and later, a 2nd time, to say “eh why not?” Finally, Conan takes the throne out of self-preservation not because he’s accomplishing some long-term goal.
Unlike Kull, there is no “Hyborian dream” being chased in the Conan tales.
