Senji Muramasa

Better known as “Sengo Muramasa”, Muramasa’s reputation as a swordsmith is legendary. Despite this, none of the swords that he’s created are designated as National Treasures. Only one, Myouhou Muramasa, is designated as an Important Work of Art.

Ibuki-douji

Hailing from Mt. Ibuki, Ibuki’s father was a drunkard and an evil man, the word used to describe him is “uwabami” (蟒蛇) which can also mean “large snake”. This can also refer to Yamata no Orochi who was killed after consuming loads of alcohol by Susano’o.

Watanabe no Tsuna

Part of the Genji clan, Tsuna was the first person in history to take the name Watanabe. Because of his oni-slaying reputation, it’s said that oni avoid families with the Watanabe surname. Luckily, Watanabe is one of the most common surnames in Japan!

Himiko

Himiko is known to us through both Chinese & Korean records where she is mentioned as the shamaness queen of Yamataikoku, the location is debated to this day. The reason she was removed from Japanese records is unknown, but she is often associated with Empress Jingu.
