Lost Pokemon of the Day: Beta Poliwrath Family
The Poliwrath family's beta sprites were first revealed on Game Freak's official Japanese website in 1997. Game Freak also explained WHY Poliwrath was revised, and we can see for ourselves where his crown went.

Beta Cyndaquil:
When Cyndaquil was created in the middle of Gen 2's development, he wasn't originally meant as Johto's Fire starter. In fact, he doesn't appear to have even been Fire-type.

Lost Pokemon of the Day: Kōnya
Originally meant as stage 1 of the Meowth family, Kōnya was created for Gen 1, but ended up getting cut. Then Kōnya was later planned for inclusion in Gen 2, but got cut again.

Beta Hippowdon:
The new leak of Diamond & Pearl beta sprites revealed some early Gen 4 designs -- including Hippowdon, who was originally a very different take on the "sand hippo" theme.

Lost Pokemon of the Day: Cheep & Jabetta
First discovered when Gen 1 beta assets leaked in 2019, this two-stage Pokemon family was originally created during the development Red & Green... but ended up getting cut.

Beta Hippopotas:
This week's leak of Gen 4 beta sprites revealed some early Sinnoh designs, including Hippopotas... who was originally just a regular hippo. Just a sand-colored, baby hippo.

Beta Sunkern:
In August 1999, a demo of Gold & Silver was exhibited at Space World '99 in Japan. Sunkern was completely different in the demo compared to how it appeared in G&S's final build.

Beta Rotom:
The new Gen 4 leak included beta sprites, and also some placeholder sprites. Rotom's was about the most simple representation of an Electric/Ghost type you could possibly imagine.
