Beta Espeon:
In Gold & Silver's 1997 demo, instead of happiness, Eevee evolved into Espeon with a Heart Stone -- a scrapped item also used for Xatu and Politoed.

Beta Mantine:
Mantine's typing of Water & Flying makes a lot more sense once you've seen his original design from Gold & Silver's 1997 demo -- which btw, was named Haneei, "Winged Stingray."

When considering the evolution of Gen 1 Pokemon designs, it's important to realize their sprites were created BEFORE Ken Sugimori's iconic artwork.
Weird sprites aren't poor representations of Pokemon -- rather, Sugimori's artwork is a revision of the Pokemon seen in the sprite.
Beta Politoed:
In Gold & Silver's 1997 demo, Poliwhirl evolved into Politoed with a Heart Stone -- a scrapped item also used for evolving Natu into Xatu, and Eevee into Espeon.

Beta Miltank:
In Gold & Silver's 1997 demo, Miltank was originally a very chonky and unhappy cow -- but she ended up getting revised into a slimmer, pinker, happier Pokemon.

Beta Giratina Origin Form:
Extracted from a pre-release Japanese screenshot, Giratina's beta sprite bears some notable differences compared to its final design -- likes its tiny head and overall proportions.

Lost Pokemon of the Day: Pudi
First revealed when Gold & Silver's 1997 demo leaked in 2018, Pudi was originally planned as the baby stage of the Growlithe family. In Japanese, Pudi's name means "Petit Growlithe."

Beta Hoppip:
In Gold & Silver's 1997 demo, Hoppip's original name was Haneko, meaning "Leaf Cat" -- which made sense, considering its original design was much more cat-like.
