Beta Quagsire:
In Gold & Silver's 1997 demo, Quagsire was originally an unevolved pure Water-type. But Quagsire ended up getting revised to Water/Ground, and given Wooper as a pre-evolution.

(2/4) Bomushikā translates to "bomb sea lion," so he's sometimes referred to by his unofficial English name "Bombseal."
After Bomushikā was scrapped from Gen 2, the series didn't get a Water/Fire Pokemon until Volcanion in Gen 6 (who's actually classified as Fire/Water type).
Lost Pokemon of the Day: Bomushikā
First revealed when Gold & Silver's 1997 demo leaked in 2018, Bomushikā was a sea lion Pokemon, and if he'd made the final cut, would have been the series' first Water/Fire type.

Beta Igglybuff:
In Gold & SIlver's 1997 demo, Igglybuff evolved into Jigglypuff at level 12. But his design was later revised for G&S's final build, and changed to evolve via high friendship.

Slowbro's 30th Birthday:
Appearing in the earliest Pokemon concept art, Slowbro is one of the oldest Pokemon in the entire series. He's much older than Slowpoke, and even Pikachu -- in fact, he just turned 30.

Lost Pokemon of the Day: Pudi

Beta Donphan:
In Gold & Silver's 1997 demo, Donphan was originally brown. But when he made his official debut in Pokemon: The First Movie eight months later, he'd been changed to green & grey.

The First Pokemon:
Ken Sugimori has said that Rhydon, Lapras, and Clefairy were the earliest Pokemon ever created. And since Rhydon has an internal ID number of #1, he was almost certainly the very first Pokemon.
