While Computer the Golf came with a bit more personality thanks to the cartoony animations, Golf Island is a more complex, more austere game.

Meanwhile, T&E Soft was experimenting with golfer-view simulation that same year, predating their famous 3D golf titles from the '90s.

If anything, Nintendo's Golf from 1984 owes part of its design to earlier J-PC golf titles like these. Satoru Iwata was still making PC games up through '83, after all, & he's the coder behind so many early Famicom releases.

Both games would have been very appealing until then.

These also give a peek into earlier designs, like a blue-haired Hitomi & a couple unused characters (one of which is just We Have Chun-Li at Home).

I could be wrong if these cels are from a different work, just misnamed in the Mandarake listing over here: https://t.co/T8zWRHwDmG

That 1993 ad poster also highlights a drama CD, phone card set, & "mystery" reservation bonus. Time for start hunting those items down! (If they ever released, of course.)

The game only just made its '94 release period, & it seems like Gadget Factory led the media push for it.

Dead October largely attacks via a group of increasingly silly monsters of the week, from vampires to mecha to dark lords. In the midst of all this, Megumi tries to rescue her school crush Raikida, himself kidnapped like other local teens whom the society want to experiment upon.

Her partners Hitomi & Shizuka fit into their own typical tropes, but with some fun idiosyncracies, like the former's suspicious ease with nightclub etiquette & the latter always trying to get back at Megumi's low-class antics.

While she plays a background role, we see the story mainly through Megumi, a scatterbrained student & athlete who oversleeps & plays too many PC games.

Her narration/dialogue is very entertaining, even via DeepL's iffy translation. The last but not least Risky girl to join up!

Beniko's their take on the "christmas cake" woman professional, albeit one equipped with superpowers thanks to the titular Risky Jewel she shares with her team.

Dead October's wants said jewel so bad that they killed her father who researched it. Years later, it's payback time!

The story stars Beniko Enomoto, a magnate-turned-schoolteacher fighting the secret society Dead October (the first pun of many), and her three Risky girls: bookish Shizuka, haughty Hitomi, and tomboy Megumi, the latter being our protagonist.

It's a roughly 1-2 hour read in total
