I think one of the reasons they thought they could sneak it past was because Ned was adapted as asian before. But everyone figured out he was Ganke instead and even cast and crew commented on it.

Is Ultimate Mary Jane or MARY JANE in general. But they want romantic tension so she can't find out too early so if you want to have someone for Peter to talk to, adapt Ganke and call him Ned I guess.
