The best example of this is in his X-men work look up his Polaris plotline about how this AMAZING NURSE IS JUST SO AMAZING AND NEEDS TO BE WITH HAVOK AND LORNA IS SO BAD AND A BITCH....it's annoying.

He often wants to be a good writer, and tries to be dramatic, but he often just makes everyone so hatable it becomes a chore to read, he clearly wants to be understandable sometimes, but he always misses the mark.

Now someone asked me why Chuck Austen is hated and I'm just going to explain why. He IS ALMOST....okay...but there is always some bad plot point that just leaves a sour taste in your mouth. Something off.

Now the Shield agent get her fingers cut off and develops launching KNIFE fingers...she was clearly meant to be a major character on the team but like I said this comic doesn't even get to it's premise in time.

Anyway the story shifts over to the main generic bad guy who wants to cleanse the earth....yada yada...who is now interrogating a Shield agent who was introduced at the end of the last series. He was the guy trying to cause 9/11 2 and NOW HE OUT TO KILL ALL FIRST RESPONDERS.

This was meant to be an ongoing book but was cancelled after 4 issues. Not even enough time to actually see them as a team. They don't even get to the finish line of establishing all characters.

This leads to what this was building towards, the Call, these character would be exposed to a chemical in a building that would turn them into superheroes and be another jobber team for the Marvel universerse.....wait they don't show up after this so they aren't even jobbers....

Of course this changes time and Dr Timecuck is back to where he started and dead!.....GOOD GOING DR TIMECUCK! Anyway....there not much else to say....James saves someone and it's inspiring and then....

The cryptic hints at the future actually work and CHANGE THE FUTURE but James marries the scientist's from the future wife after saving her and so this causes....things to derail.

But let's get to the mystery, you see the Ghost Girl's father steals a time machine and decides TO SEND her back in time prevent 9/11-2 and save her family. This plot point....becomes weird.
