announced the authentication of 3 shipwrecks from a fleet of Louis XIV that was wiped out during the Battle of La Hougue in 1692. The ships were found in the 1990s off the coast of the English Channel. Researchers are seeking funding to continue their work.

French painter Jean-Honoré Fragonard died in 1806
A pupil under François Boucher & Jean-Siméon Chardin, Fragonard painted in a Rococo style for years. His 1765 painting “Coresus and Callirhoë” won him entry into the Académie Royale. He later worked in establishing museums.

Sadly French illustrator Jean-Jacques Sempé has died at age 89.

Sempé co-created "Le Petit Nicolas" children’s books & illustrated more covers for the than any other artist.

According to Orhan Pamuk "Sempé is France. Everything is there: irony & tenderness."

British Painter Laura Knight was born 1877.
In 1939, Knight was asked to create recruitment posters for the Women’s Land Army. She later famously depicted the Nuremberg Trial. She was also known for intimate portraits, often of marginalized people.

American Realist artist Harvey Dinnerstein has sadly died at 94. Along with his friend Burt Silverman, he depicted the trial & other events surrounding the Montgomery bus boycott in 1956. Dinnerstein portrayed Rosa Parks holding a bible. Most recently he depicted the pandemic.
