I attempted to watch the one Gilliam film that I had not yet seen: “The Brothers Grimm.”
I love a good theatrical forest set (in parts) and the subject should have appealed to me but sorry to say that it all felt so choppy, unfocused and way too broad in its performances. Shame.

In total it was around 180 pages written and drawn by myself and edited and lettered at Titan.
I had no training (in art, writing or comics). Everything I have ever worked on or made (from video to comics) has been self taught and from a love of the things that I enjoy.

Facebook informed me that the first issue of my old comic series “Surface Tension” was released on this day five years ago. Time flies!
I’m currently seeing tweets by people telling others how comics should or shouldn’t be made. Before this book I had never made a comic series.

Any fans of Gilliam’s “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen?”
I find it to be a film of much production ingenuity in the face of mounting budget problems. The way the restrictions are rethought with ingenious budget saving solutions that add to the charm/imagination of the film.

Oops - wrong Freddie Francis Hammer Dracula film... “Dracula has risen from the grave.”

But the point still stands. :)

Glances about twitter to see if anyone was paying attention... phew, I think I got away with that one.

Next week I return to illustrating a new book that I have written. And because I don’t want to repeat the mistakes of the past I will be self funding the work.
Excited and terrified of worries of self doubts in equal measure. Got to climb that mountain, one step at a time.

Miyazaki nicely expands upon his creations for Totoro for this film. The films shown at the museum are on a rotational basis so you cannot choose, I had to visit a number of times to see all the films (thanks to local friends) so it was a delight to finally see this one.

There’s been a little too much horror on my twitter recently so time to share some nicer things. Here are some of the programs for the short films shown at the Ghibli museum that I’ve picked up on my visits there.
First up “Boro the caterpillar.”

It’s got a great atmosphere to it, perhaps it’s merely the French connection but I feel that it has a similar Jean Cocteau fairy tale vibe to it.

Hmmm... Murnau’s “Faust” (1926) or Christensen's “Häxan?” (1920-22).

Both brilliant. But which one would I choose to put in my top three devilry/possession/demonic film choice? Tough choice.
