Ridley Scott had seen a painting in Giger’s book “Necoronomicon” (as shown to him by Alien script originator Dan O’ Bannon who had worked with Giger on Jodorowsky’s “Dune”) and chose that as the basis of the alien pilot.
Scott drew that design into his storyboards.

Giger prepared paintings of the cockpit and of the ‘jockey,’ as well as sculpting miniature models of the set and pilot.

The studio didn’t want to hire Giger and the ‘space jockey’ set was almost cut from the schedule due to cost but was completed at the last minute due to Ridley Scott’s canny ability to navigate the studio production.
It became the surreal centre mysterious piece of the film.

Ha ha - ruddy auto spell corrector.

‘GIGER’ dammit (it just tried to change it to ‘tiger!’ :)

I saw it an Odeon too (at or near to Hull). I still have a very clear memory of the foyer from that time and seeing that amazing King Kong poster there, which really built up an impossible expectation for the film. It featured a burning zeppelin, jet fighters AND helicopters!

And as a ghoulish footnote, Murnau’s skull was stolen from its grave in Germany. Rumoured to have been stolen by German occultists due to Murnau’s connection with the occult funded “Nosferatu.”

But Murnau’s work is so much more than that one infamous film.

EDIT: Symphony of Horror. Not ‘terror,’ but both would suffice.

At first I thought it was that he was simply (there’s no ‘simple’ about it) recolouring his pages. But on closer inspection I noticed that he was pretty much redrawing everything, added more details and even reframed panels.
That’s a huge undertaking to recreate an entire book.

So I don’t tent to post much about my own work. Writing & drawing takes up a huge amount of time I don’t have much time for process sketches or that sort of thing.

I am working on new stuff but I’ve learned not to show it in advance in case I jinx or curse myself. It happens. :)

I turn down more offers of work than I probably should (from a financial point) but I get rather obsessed with my own work even though it keeps me from being successful/prolific but I follow my heart.
Of course I am sometimes drawn back to things that I co-created in the past.
