#WriteForMe I can't count how often I've heard, "I don't read <genre>. But I'm going to write it because I've got a great idea that's never been done." Supposed genius then shares a hackneyed idea that's been done to death. Simple rule: If you don't read it, don't try writing it.
#SciFiDaily I get reality for free every day. That's why, when I want to escape it, I read space opera, sword & planet, and superheroes. It's why I play RPGs. And it's why I write heroic fiction. Why pay for someone else's reality when adventure awaits?
Art by Massimo Carnevale.
#SciFiDaily Hatching the Phoenix by Vincent Di Fate - who must have the coolest sci-fi artist's name ever. This caught my eye because the ship in the foreground similar to how I envision the starliner that's the setting for my Kindle Vella story, The Hostage in Hiding.
#BooksForBoys I first read this book on a family beach vacation. Milo's strange, magical, and pun-filled adventures so thoroughly captured my imagination that I stayed in our hotel room reading the book instead of playing in the waves. Boys will love this clever and humorous book
#SciFiDaily This is probably artwork for the John Carter of Mars RPG, and the scene suggests an exciting adventure is underway. Change the green Martians to yellow-furred beasts, and this could be Jade from Scout's First Mission. My new book that's coming for Kindle on July 20.
#SciFiDaily Ken Kelly's "Princess of the Walrus" intrigues me. Is she a selkie who bred with the seals' tusked cousins? Or maybe she's from a related race wiped out in a horrific war with the selkies? Either way, she's all babe & fits into more than one of kind of fantasy.
#SciFiDaily After 5 weeks of iconic spaceships (and one rant), I'll mention my book that comes closest to turning a spaceship into a character. The Starwind isn't in the Falcon or Serenity, but it has its own charm and plays its part in the adventure.

#SciFiDaily We begin the 21st century with Serenity. Her "space horse" design was perfect for the space western Firefly. She's my favorite spaceship, and I simply couldn't choose just one image of her. The one left hangs on my wall, and two models of her grace my desk.
Aliens aren't particularly alien, but they aren't exactly human, either. Their biology works because I wave my authorial hand and declare it works. Stellar empires exist because, yet again, they're cool. And now I know what I write.
Sci-fi-fanta-cool. Yeah, let's go with that./3
#WriteForMe The X-Thieves provide a perfect snapshot of the black & white boom, and the eventual bust. A snapshot I used as the plot as inspiration for "Glut," the story in X-Thieves #4. More on that in a bit. Let's return to the beginning and the X-Thieves Micro Series. /1
