@SciFiDaily Artist @daztibbles captures the heart of the Mandalorian - Sergio Leone westerns and the manga Lone Wolf & Cub - in one image. This is @Jon_Favreau's strength. He respects his inspirations without imitating them, just like George Lucas did with the original trilogy.
#SciFiDaily Bob Layzell's painting from the 1978 book "Spacecraft, 2000-2100 AD: Terran Trade Authority Handbook" beautifully captures the fun and adventure good pulpy space opera delivers. Stick this on a book cover and I'd buy in a heartbeat.
#SciFiDaily returns to fantasy with Tony DeZuniga's gorgeous rendition of Red Sonja. I'll shut up now and let you enjoy the She Devil With a Sword.
#WriteForMe Budding writers should read folk & fairy tales. Stories that have survived centuries are treasure troves of character archetypes, timeless plots, and provide a glimpse into other cultures. If you haven't read them yet, it's never too late to start.
Art by Chris Dunn.
#WriteForMe "Write what you know" may be the worst, most misunderstood writing advice ever. Pedantic critics often use it to denigrate imaginative writing because the author "can't possibly know that." Screw them. I say, "Write what you dream." Then I add, "And dream big."
#SciFiDaily Oleksiy Lipatov's "24 Light Years From Home" deftly captures every science fiction geek's fantasy. It's your basic castaway fantasy - just you and a cute girl shipwrecked on a tropical island - transplanted to an alien world. You can find his work on Deviantart.
#SciFiDaily began exactly one year ago, when I posted this fake cover. I've posted 300 science fiction covers and images since then, and this remains one of my favorites. Happy anniversary, Nancy Goodaim.
#SciFiDaily I never heard of Gamma magazine before, probably because it only lasted for five issues before its finances dried up. Looking at the first issue lineup, I can readily imagine it wasn't an inexpensive production. With an Eye-catching cover by Morris Scott Dollens, too.
@SciFiDaily I love Dan Morton's space girl art series. From the skintight suit to the bubble-helmet to the retro-futuristic pistol to the 1930s style spaceship in the background, th image just screams fun space opera adventure. This style of art always captures my imagination.
#SciFiDaily Galen Dara's "Bubbles and Blast Off" brings a modern look to the traditional spacebabe. It's a bit busy for my usual tastes, but I love Dara's use of color. And, modern though it is, this image is thoroughly rooted in pulp science fiction artwork.
