It looks like it will be a tight squeeze, and even Baba can’t predict what will happen. In fact, this is pretty much the last we hear of Baba’s prophetic abilities, though her clairvoyance and afterlife clout will continue to come in handy.

Anyway…on Earth, Yamcha and co finish their training under Kami and go down to the surface to spend the remaining time training on their own. This is at the 118 day mark, so in the manga it’s after Goku catches Bubbles, and in the anime after he bops Gregory.

And so, after six months of filler, on May 29th Goku finally reaches the end of the road and meets Kaio, with (once more, with feeling) 158 days left until the Saiyans reach Earth. His first training challenge: grab the monkey.

Still in May, Bulma and Roshi celebrate finally collecting the dragon balls to revive Goku, by the light of an artificial moon. Yes, Piccolo learns two can play the “illusion” game as a projection from Goku’s old spaceship turns Gohan Great Ape again.

(For some dangblasted reason Viz leaves out the “6 months” bit from the two Goku panels, but does keep it for the narration on Tenshinhan and co right before that)

Long story short: the narrator says Goku takes six months to reach Kaio’s, at which point Kaio says the Saiyans arrive in 158 days. So the total time between Raditz and Vegeta/Nappa is more like 11 months 8 days rather than a full year, a gap the characters comment on.

Gohan’s very first night out in the wild just so happens to be a full moon, and the Saiyan half of him goes apeshit. Is this a coincidence, or did Raditz intentionally schedule his arrival for a full moon night, just as Vegeta and Nappa do?

Piccolo is apparently drawn to this particular wasteland by instinct, since it looks vaguely similar to Namek (kind of, a bit). He leaves Gohan to survive on his own for the next six months, but stays close by to keep an eye on him, and supply apples as necessary.
