#RandomShoutout to the great Basil Poledouris, a film composer highly respected by the people who recognize his name, but whose name isn't recognized by nearly enough people. Here are a few of my favorites from among his work!
Another example: the REAR WINDOW concept. The idea of accidentally seeing a neighbor (or fellow driver) do something awful always works for me, no matter the genre in which the story is placed!
Sidenote: I feel like the brief but fertile period of boxing films that followed in the wake of ROCKY is a forgotten corner of movie history that might be worth discussing more often.
(I mean, one of these is a Robert Mitchum movie with a stuntman in a bad kangaroo suit!)
Coincidentally, I’ve been thinking about movies that make me cry quite a bit today. Here’s a quick shoutout to a few more movies that I cherish for their ability to move me to tears every time I watch them. :)
(Not an exhaustive list. Just the first ones that came to mind!)
I finally saw SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, and I enjoyed it! I admired how deftly the film juggled five villains, three Spider-Men and however many universes in a way that didn’t feel confusing, while also telling a story that really made me feel emotional at the end. :)
I've been thinking about short stories today, and of the unique sort of writing skill it takes to make a short story really, truly great. Here's a shoutout to four of my favorite short-story authors, who hit it out of the park almost every single time at bat. :)
@KyleKozmikDLuxO The late Darwyn Cooke did this several times in his series of PARKER graphic novels, and those are widely regarded as masterpieces.
I think it's perfectly acceptable!
Here are just a few of the many great movies Ladd shepherded to the screen. This list also includes YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, ALIEN, OUTLAND, BLADE RUNNER, A FISH CALLED WANDA, and many, many more great movies.
Lots of '80s pop on the "writing music" songlists lately! This album in particular has been getting a lot of airtime in my house lately.
No real reason for saying this. Just wanted you guys to know that the BEVERLY HILLS COP soundtrack still slaps hard. :)
