We’re so excited to have received our first few #prints for a new collection intended to provide opportunities for art students to engage in close study of print techniques. Here’s a garden scene (c. 1600) and some detail shots.
We were flipping through the mammoth tome Orchidaceae this morning and found a trifecta of interesting content for #MapMonday, #InternationalWomensDay, and #SciArt.
Cirrhopetalum umbellatum is pictured, underlaid by a map showing regions of the world where it grows. [1/4]
Happy #MarbledMonday! Today we have an image we found on our phone without any contextual information but decided to share it anyway. We look forward to stumbling on the source at some point.
Charles Dickens' #Christmas Books series had five novellas published in the 1840s--all had social and moral messages. "The Chimes: A Goblin Story of Some Bells that Rang an Old Year Out and a New Year In" was published in 1844.

We haven't shared a #bird image in quite some time and thought our first day of winter snow provided a great opportunity. First up, we have the snow bunting, followed by a winter favorite--the #cardinal. The illustrations are found in Rex Brasher's Birds & Trees of North America.
We were esp. pleased to find a section called "Delights" w/ recipes To make a fine pudding, To make sugar cakes, To make Gooseberry Cakes, and How to make a very good pie. To be fair though, we're pretty sure that last one is a savory dish--it uses pears, raisins, and herring?!?
We also looked at #books about #MarbledPaper, w/ examples here from the 1978 "Marbled Papers: Being a Collection of 22 Hand-Marbled Papers..." by Christopher Weimann. We could go on with the paper samples included in books, so look for more paper features in the coming days!
Images from The Naturalist’s Library showcase the intricacies of the complex structure of bee nests and hives.

We adore bees, so on #HoneyBeeDay we are sharing one of our favorite vols. from the entomology section of The Naturalist's Library.
You can always find this book in our reading room, but if you can't wait check out a digitized version from @BioDivLibrary:
