Anaza: Kaleidoscope Special!
It's a shmup. On the plus side, you get multiple hit points. BUT, you only get one life. One of the major issues that keeps popping up is the lack of interesting power-ups, or anything interesting at all with this shmups. They all feel samey.
Aleste!
This is known as Power Strike on other systems. This is the first MSX game that has a bit of hype coming with it.
I have to do the doctor stuff today, all the way in San Francisco. But, I expect to knock out a lot of games this afternoon. Holy crap, there's Back to the Future for MSX?
Aliens?
BATMAN?
I've been waiting for this marathon for a while and damnit, I'm done waiting.
Now wait🤪
There's a good game somewhere in here. It actually feels like Indiana Jones. Mola Ram teleporting around and throwing fireballs at you (the game's NO CAMPING insurance, like Evil Otto is for Berzerk) is genuinely unnerving.
But I keep going back to the awful controls.
The mine cart stages are especially bad. They're just insanely easy. I've never played this before, but now on my third set of them, the stakes are gone. I haven't come close to dying on them. They fly by.
This is boring. Temple of Doom is a BORING game! Ugh!
It's not like this couldn't have been good. This isn't that far removed from Star Wars, an incredible game that aged very well. But yea, it's repetitive and awful. The NES game, as bad as it was, at least was ambitious.
But I'd still like to hear from fans. Did anyone play this?
This, for example. It looks like I'm going up those stairs to reach the kid in the cage, right?
No, I'm going to fall to my death. The correct way is to line Indy's sprites well above where the spites for the stairs are.
Even the ENEMIES are constantly falling to their deaths!
Then you have to grab the Sankara Stone here. It's really simple: just wait for the pit in front of it to close.
Then it starts cycling over.
Temple of Doom is pretty awful. Has a lot of voice samples, but the issue is perspective is tough to clock and I'm constantly falling.
I'm feeling peckish..

I played the NES port of this, the arcade game for the worst Indiana Jones movie (fight me bro). I hated it.
