@philipreeve1 @SMay_Hull_Uni @MichaelRosenYes @chrisriddell50 In the case of Dahl’s work, the illustrations were hugely influential: Joseph Schindelman’s Pictures left me feeling the stories are horrifically dark, whereas I think British readers find Dahl’s writing much more light, playful and socially acceptable, due to Quentin Blake.
