I reread Volume 1 of Re:Zero. While not an emotional heavy hitter, it does set the tone for the series quite well, with worldbuilding sprinkled in and a focus on establishing the starting point for Subaru's character arc. I'll give it an 8.
Character type I love: villains who are gradually explored posthumously to reveal a whole new side & context to them, showing how limited the protagonist's perspective on the world really is & even leading the viewer to question some things.

What IS very likely related to that trauma, although not explicit, is the hypersexuality in her design.
The anime cut out references to a certain "Mama" figure she's connected to and is working under... a character with very similar traits (and likely trauma).
