Our favorite middle grade genre is an impossible task because it totally depends on our moods! But since we are always ready for a funny book, here’s a shout out to a few of our laugh-out-loud faves for Day 8 of #MGBooktober: The Real McCoys, Bernice Buttman, & Beatrice Zinker!
It’s Day 4 of #MGBooktober! A nonfiction author that we love learning from? That’s easy! Katherine Roy not only illustrates beautifully, she does deep research for her books. Best part? During her live presentations her stories & videos cause jaw drops from kids of all ages. 🦈🐘
“To make matters worse, Eleanor - that was the name of his human - had forced him to wear the Big White Cone of Shame.”
Oh, how we love Horace Homer Higgins III & Bunwinkle/Winkie/Butt Wrinkle. What a duo! 🐶🐷
Horace & Bunwinkle by @SwitzerPj & @dmott70 is a #kidlit must read!
We finally got the chance to read This Old Dog written by Martha Brockenbrough & illustrated by Gabriel Alborozo. Seeing old dog & small girl walk side by side charmed us and made us smile huge on this Sunday night. Simply adorable! 🐶📦 #kidlit
@mbrockenbrough @gabrielevansart
Woke up to find that @Scholastic’s new Book Club flyers are out! Sooooo excited about the gems in our overflowing cart including Gustavo, the Shy Ghost by @Diafla, No Fuzzball! by @isaberryk, and Twins by @varianjohnson! Can’t wait for that book box to arrive! 📘📦
Remembering Ethan written by @lesleanewman & illustrated by @TracyBishopArt was an immediate picture book purchase for our library collections. For those students who have lost a sibling, this book will feel like a giant hug for their whole families. #kidlit
Where to begin? Loved the story. Loved the illustrations. Gushed & gushed as the pages went by. Ollie and Augustus by @gabrielevansart was one of our #roadtrip purchases and discovering this charming, quirky little story fills us with all the dog joy in the world. 🐶🥰
We were unaware of the history of Martha’s Vineyard Sign Language, and this gripping #ownvoices middle grade novel was fascinating & provoked us to learn more. If Show Me a Sign by @annclezotte opened our eyes this much, we can only imagine what it will teach our students. #mglit
The ups & downs of friendship. Being brave enough to stand up for a friend, or yourself. Supporting your family, no matter what.
And this truth:
“Do the right thing...
even if it’s the hard thing.”
-That’s What Friends Do by Cathleen Barnhart; #mglit at its finest.
