For #InternationalCarrotDay we found this image of a wild carrot from our collections. It is 1 of 15 pen and water colour drawings of Australian flowering plants, and thought to have been sent to the Linnean Society by Major Robert Ross.
Our offices will close from 12 pm today and reopen on January 2nd. Here's a festive Christmas treat from the domestic archives, sent to the Society in 1919. #christmas #christmascards #festive
#Onthisday in 1912, the Society received this lovely #festive card from Sweden. #Christmas #Christmascards #archives
For #WorldOtterDay here is a drawing taken from Rees's Cyclopaedia of a sea otter & an European otter (the bottom 2). Our founder, Sir James Edward Smith, was a principal Botanical contributor, he added over 3300 articles on botany. Why not pop in to our library to have a look?
Carl Linnaeus was born #otd in 1707. Have you seen our Linnean Correspondence collection? https://t.co/hVGANf40XU We have digitised letters sent & received by the great man himself. To also celebrate #WorldTurtleDay, we have found this letter sent to him by Thomas Pennant.
#ValentinesDay To Linnaeus the 2 halves of this shell recalled the shape of a heart. Cardium humanum #HeartShell Knight Vol 2 (1843–45).
