It is understood that the new Irish Viceroy (Lord Lieutenant), Marquess Wellesley (pictured) offered William Saurin the role of chief justice for common pleas, heading one of Dublin's 'four courts'. When Mr Saurin turned down the role, he was dismissed from the government.

Marquess Wellesley (pictured) is the older brother of the Duke of Wellington, and a former Irish and UK MP. He's been foreign secretary and governor-general of India. The new viceroy (lord-lieutenant) is believed to be the first Irish-born holder of the office in 150 years,

The Prime Minister, Lord Liverpool, is believed to have decided on the need for a new leader at Dublin Castle after previous episodes of violence. One name being mentioned is Marquess Wellesley (pictured), the older brother of the Duke of Wellington. Both were born in Ireland.

It's Friday 17 August 1821. We're live tweeting the news from 200 years ago. History is being made in Dublin with King George IV entering the city in a huge procession this lunchtime. He's making the first peacetime visit to Ireland by a British monarch.

King George is now replying to the warm welcome he's received at Holyhead. He says he's received with peculiar pleasure the affectionate and loyal messages from a principality, the title of which he's borne as Prince of Wales during so much of his life.

In Dublin, Lord Sidmouth has tonight met the Lord Lieutenant, Marquis Wellesley [pictured] to agree arrangements for the king's arrival at Dunleary, and his entry into the city. Roads into Dublin have undergone repairs, and Dublin Bay is set to be packed with spectators,

Queen Caroline, who is 53, has been suffering from an obstruction of the bowels, which are also inflamed. The condition was diagnosed just days after she was refused entry to the coronation of her estranged husband, King George, at Westminster Abbey (pictured).

This is the point at which Caroline of Brunswick would have been crowned queen, had King George agreed. Instead, she is at home after being refused entry to Westminster Abbey and Westminster Hall at breakfast-time, on the orders of the king and the government.

This is a first picture as Queen Caroline tried to enter Westminster Abbey during several unsuccessful attempts to become part of the coronation this morning. The queen is said to have laughed when a door-keeper insisted on her providing a ticket to enter Westminster Hall.

'Coke of Norfolk' (pictured) used the petition to attack Tory ministers. He backed complaints that they had lost the country's confidence because of their extravagant spending, huge standing army, and opposition to Queen Caroline. Political reform would address public grievances.
