Its 2 o'clock. The Prince Regent is being welcomed to the Palace of Westminster with an artillery salvo. He's just got out of the state carriage at the entrance to the House of Lords and is getting a warm reception. We're live tweeting the prince's speech from the throne.

It's widely believed that ministers will propose legislation to crack down on protests, radicals and hostile media. We'll have live tweets from Westminster, with the Prince Regent's speech due to start shortly after 2pm. MPs and peers will then have their first chance to react.

Earl Grosvenor, a one-time Tory MP, says he's at a loss to understand why the government is said to be planning new laws to crack down on disaffection & increasing army numbers, when there hasn't even been an inquiry into the Peterloo events. An impartial investigation is needed.

The inquest into the death of John Lees, who died after sustaining injuries at the St Peter's Field meeting on 16 August, has resumed for a shorter than usual 10th day in Manchester. Witness Henry Kirkman has said he saw militia colonel Ralph Fletcher 'striking the people'.

The 9th day of the inquest into the death of John Lees has begun with another tow over newspaper coverage. The Times has been accused of 'abominable and scandalous' misreporting by the barrister representing the local authorities in Manchester, only identified as Mr Ashworth.

The morning's evidence on the 8th day of the inquest into the Waterloo veteran John Lees, who died after attending the Manchester pro-democracy rally, has been dominated by the testimony of a weaver and friend of the dead man. James Whowill says he saw him struck with a sword.
