On this day in 1974, Jorge Grau’s spine-chilling rural tale of the ghostly undead feasting on human flesh, The Living Dead (aka Let Sleeping Corpses Lie) was released in Italy! The oppressive atmosphere, gory carnage, and haunting visuals got the film banned as a video nasty!

Remembering the seminal 1998 slasher Urban Legend from today on its 24th anniversary!

This holds a special place in my heart as it’s the first time any piece of my writing work ended up in print, as part of Urban Legend Trilogy boxset!

Today we’re thinking of Texan regional horror director S. F. Brownrigg, who sadly left us on this day in 1996. He was responsible for the video nasty Don’t Look in the Basement, as well as Don’t Open the Door and Scum of the Earth (aka Poor White Trash Part II).

On this day in 1980, Jesús Franco’s Spanish-French Eurociné meat-munching rip-off Cannibals (White Cannibal Queen) was released in Italy! Omitting the animal cruelty and sexual violence, the film still got nabbed by police for its cannibal theme during the video nasty scare!

We’re very sad to report that cult director Douglas McKeown has passed away on September 9th due to a long-term illness. He’s well known for the low-budget creature feature The Deadly Spawn and his important LGBTQIA+ activism.

He’ll be sorely missed. RIP Douglas 😞

Today we’re thinking of Italian cult director Luigi Cozzi, born on this day in 1947! He’s responsible for the glorious video nasty and Alien rip-off Contamination, as well as other cult gems like The Black Cat (Demons 6) and Paganini Horror!

Today we’re thinking of the Italian master of violence himself, Dario Argento, born on this day in 1940! He’s responsible for kicking off the giallo frenzy in his native Italy but he also provided the UK with three of its video nasties, including Tenebrae, Inferno, and Suspiria!

If you’re thinking of picking up this glorious release, why not add a legitimate Book of Eibon to slip into the Blu-Ray case? It contains all the lore from the film, plus new material that connects all of Fulci’s Gates of Hell trilogy! Get your copy here: https://t.co/aGHAPCHhfx

Today we’re also thinking of Italian producer Luciano Martino, who sadly passed away on this day in 2013. He was responsible for three of the video nasties within the cannibal cycle, including Prisoner of the Cannibal God, Eaten Alive, and Cannibal Ferox!

On this day in 1980, Lucio Fulci’s Gothic-infused Lovecraftian nightmare, City of the Living Dead was released in Italy! Due to the infamy of Fulci’s video nasties (Zombie Flesh Eaters, The Beyond & House by the Cemetery), the police netted this one during their raids as well!
