Our next booklet is covering the wonderfully ludicrous Bigfoot slasher movie Night of the Demon (1980). No matter which version you have, this collector’s booklet will easily fit into your DVD or Blu-Ray edition, so why not pre-order today: https://t.co/9XRpsQ3DUM (Out June 1st!)
Today we’re thinking of low-budget auteur director James Bryan, born on this day in 1943! A frequent collaborator with German actress Rene Harmon, he gave us the near-satirical slasher video nasty Don’t Go in the Woods, as well as The Executioner (Part 2) and Lady Street Fighter!
Also on this day in 1981, Jean Rollin’s small town tale of Nazi zombies, Zombies Lake was unleashed in French cinemas! Along with Oasis of the Zombies, the presence of Third Reich undead, gory neck bitings and rampant nudity required police confiscation on the DPP’s behalf!
Today we’re remembering little-known Italian cult director Luigi Batzella, who was born on today’s date in 1924! He was responsible for the overly-offensive Nazisploitation video nasty The Beast in Heat, as well as the similar Achtung! The Desert Tigers and Nude for Satan!
Due to the film’s content involving animal slaughter, current UK versions (from @ShamelessFilms) omit these sequences but are otherwise intact. For completionists, uncut prints are available from @GrindhouseFilm in the US or from Ultrabit in Europe 👍
On this day in 1978, Franco Prosperi’s harrowing home invasion shocker Last House on the Beach was released in Italy! Combining nunsploitation elements with a rape ‘n’ revenge framework, the film got seized during the nasties scare due to sharing a title with a Section 3 film!
Have a wonderful Blu-Ray in your horror collection that you wish had just a few more extras? Thankfully, Nasty Pasty is offering collector booklets with essays tailored to popular releases from your favourite distributors! Check them out here: https://t.co/VIHWoUqCGH
We’re also remembering Spanish legend Armando De Ossorio, born on today’s date in 1918 and known for his Blind Dead series: Tombs of the Blind Dead, Return of the Evil Dead, The Ghost Galleon & Night of the Seagulls, the latter of which ended up seized during the nasties panic!
Thankfully, the film has found favour with many a cult fan since those years, with a wealth of available versions for collectors. @SecondSightFilm has it as part of their Basket Case Trilogy Blu-Ray set while @ArrowFilmsVideo has the film available in both Blu-Ray and 4K versions
Something a little different; after so many impressive horrors over the past few years, I thought I’d collate who I think are the best horror directors currently (and their movies). Anyone else got any recent favourites they’d include in their own ‘Modern Masters of Horror’?
