On this day in 1983, David Kent-Watson’s machismo-fuelled brawler GBH was released on VHS in the UK! Shot on video guerilla-style in the night scene of Manchester, this unassuming flick found itself dragged into controversy when the VHS was listed as a Section 3 video nasty.

On this day in 1981, Jesús Franco’s Spanish language-school slasher was released to audiences for the first time! Just a few years later, the film became infamous in the UK, after it was listed and successfully prosecuted as a video nasty!

On this day in 1976, Rino Di Silvestro’s feverishly sultry nightmare Werewolf Woman was released in Italy! Despite releasing in the UK in a censored format, the film was chosen for the DPP’s Section 3 video nasty list, causing it to be seized countrywide from shops and suppliers.

On this day in 1976, British pot-boiler Exposé was released in UK cinemas. No one realised just how controversial this film would be until five years later when it was branded a video nasty by the authorities, the only British film to be prosecuted under that banner!

On this day in 1975, one of Dario Argento's most well-regarded giallo films was released in theatres, the seminal classic Deep Red! Boasting an incredible score, lurid visuals, and a flamboyantly theatrical aesthetic, this horror was listed as a Section 3 video nasty in the UK!

On this day in 1981, Ovidio G. Assonitis’ Italian slasher Madhouse was released to theatres! With its homegrown giallo elements merged with the gory excesses of the American splatter, it’s no surprise that the film was netted by the DPP as a video nasty in 1980s Britain!
