There's also the new Canto character that combines 足 (leg) with 推 (push), pronounced like 推, meaning to kick/thrust. It was created after the HK police was filmed pushing away a citizen begging for peace with a kick. Asia's finest!

Macau is often seen as having been "tamed" especially compared to HK, but there were actually doodles from the city in support of the HK protests back in 2019:

“This night, we may not be there with you, but we are with you.”

The spark is there.

It also adds poignancy to the phrase 'not one less'. HKers won't accept anything less than the 5 Demands... and we also cannot do without you by our side. Stay alive. Stay alive.

To those overwhelmed by depression, the message from HKers' doodles is clear: We know you may be struggling. We feel your pain. You are not alone. So many of us are standing right behind you. We will catch you if you fall.

And so HK protest art was keenly aware of depression & suicide risks from the start. Our doodles had a pleading tone -

"Please don't commit suicide. Our hearts are as one."
"Friends, don't go. HKers, don't give up."

The feeling of guilt has added to the blues, and we guess this will only intensify as some HKers leave, some stay. Either way, all of those left alive, still (relatively) free must often wonder... why me and not them?...
