To those overwhelmed by depression, the message from HKers' doodles is clear: We know you may be struggling. We feel your pain. You are not alone. So many of us are standing right behind you. We will catch you if you fall.

And so HK protest art was keenly aware of depression & suicide risks from the start. Our doodles had a pleading tone -

"Please don't commit suicide. Our hearts are as one."
"Friends, don't go. HKers, don't give up."

The feeling of guilt has added to the blues, and we guess this will only intensify as some HKers leave, some stay. Either way, all of those left alive, still (relatively) free must often wonder... why me and not them?...

Most of the HK protest art you've seen are probably of our frontliners braving teargas, looking unbeatable, unshakeable, unbreakable. But the truth is HKers are merely human. Many were drowning, in teargas, in tears, in fears. Many are still drowning.

Think back to July 1 2020. It was the first day of a new HK under NSL. HKers had a lot they wanted to say, and unsure whether they were allowed to say it.

"Not one less..." "We leave together..." The words have added poignancy as by July 1 2019, at least 2 protesters had lost their lives. The moment in LegCo that day was 齊上齊落 all the way.

This probably best captures how many of us feel about AD. It made us laugh with how on9 it could be. It made us angry by how trash it could be. And now, just sadness.
