Part of Dick's training as Robin included firearms training. How to shoot them, take them apart, even throw them. Comes in handy in police academy.

Dick's time in the police academy can basically be summed up by "he already knows all this, it's super boring for him." At which point, as a reader, I have to ask why he's doing it? I get that he wants to help more people, but his motivations to become a cop are flimsy imo.

Though Dick's time on the BPD isn't terribly productive, he DOES help people, and it results in him being allies/friends with Amy Rohrbach.

#31 is also the issue where Dick enrolls in the police academy. He's been talking about how Blüdhaven's corruption flows from the top down, and working in a cop bar all this time, so I guess this is his attempt to clean it up from the inside, à la Jim Gordon.

We also find out that Clancy wants to be a doctor, and Dick basically ensures she'll get a Wayne Foundation scholarship (though she doesn't know he has those connections).

One thing this run does well is making Dick feel like a real person, despite his superheroics. He has to get sleep when he can, he has stubble from forgetting to shave, he wears Batman boxers, he actually connects with his neighbors. It makes the world feel lived in.

Thinking about how Dick's mom called him her Robin, how Dick thought about adopting Damian after Bruce died, how Dick was the first person to put in the work to earn Damian's trust and respect, and how he reminded him today that Damian was his Robin first.
