Bessie MacNicol.
MacNicol was a Scottish artist whose work was well known in her lifetime. She died aged 34 while pregnant and her husband's second wife destroyed or sold many of her paintings. The ones which survive attest to her talent.

Mary Bradish Titcomb.
Titcomb was an American Impressionist painter from New Hampshire. She is known for portraits and landscapes and at one time signed her first name as just M, to avoid possible prejudice against female artists.

Steer was an artist and art teacher. He was part of a movement of British Impressionists, after visiting France, although this seems to have garnered him some criticism, and later he painted in a more realist style.

Georgia O'Keefe.
O'Keefe was one of the big names in the American modernist scene. One of the subjects she was fond of painting were flowers. This was one of her most famous compositions. Later she painted landscapes in the New Mexico desert.

This is Mr and Mrs Thomas Hallett (and their dog), supposedly on their wedding day, but I think they are just too well colour coordinated. I think Gainsborough may have used a bit of artistic licence here.

Little is known about the artist, although he may have had Titian as a pupil. 6 of his paintings are known. Art historians have argued for centuries about the meaning of this work. Adam and Eve? The Goddess Demeter? Self-Portrait?

Claude Monet.
Monet painted over 250 images of waterlilies in the latter part of his career, many while he was suffering from eye problems. All of the paintings were from his own garden in Giverny and are justly famous.

Camille Pissarro.
Pissarro was a Danish born artist from St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. He spent most of his life and career in France and so his earlier paintings on St. Thomas are less well known. Here is one.

Max Liebermann.
Liebermann was a German Impressionist painter. Artis is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands, which still has large collections of birds. Liebermann was Jewish so the Germans banned his art after 1932. He died in 1935

Sir George Clausen.
Clausen was an artist who was extremely popular in his day. Over a long life (1852 - 1944), he produced a large number of well-received works, in which the most important element was light. He was also a WW1 war artist.
