The woman sitting is Berthe Morisot, whose works we can see in many galleries, and Fanny Claus, standing, who was a concert violinist whose skill can never be appreciated, as she died aged 31, before the age of recording.

Moser was a celebrated painter, mainly of flowers, in the 18th century and one of two women founding members of the Royal Academy, the youngest at age 24, but neither of them were allowed to attend committee dinners.

There is an interesting sub-genre of shepherdess bothering which goes on in Boucher's idyllic rural paintings. Boucher was the leading light of the Rococo movement and was championed by Madame de Pompadour.

William Stewart MacGeorge.
McGeorge was a prolific Scottish artist who trained in Edinburgh and Antwerp and was associated with Edward Atkinson Hornel. His fame does not appear to have strayed very far from his native Scotland, which is a pity.

Felix Vallotton.
Swiss born, French naturalised painter and woodblock printer Vallotton was a member of Les Nabis and produced realist paintings characterised by great drawing skill and eye catching though rarely bright colours.

Mary Cassatt.
Cassatt came from a very wealthy family, but was often short of money since her father controlled the purse strings. She went to Paris and became an artist in the Impressionist style, mainly painting women and children.

The South Wind (A Merry Little Breeze).
Bertha Lum.
Lum was an artist from Iowa who became one of the few Westerners to learn how to master Japanese woodblock prints in the ukiyo-e style. She lived in Japan and later, China, which she had to leave in 1953.
