RPG Densetsu Hepoi, Edokko Boy Gatten Tasuke (Tasuke, the Samurai Cop)… There are more along the same vein, (although made during/after SFC GG2) and that’s not even counting humorous anime set in the Edo period and the mountain of content over on the manga side as well.
Samurai Pizza Cats (Kyatto Ninden Teyande) was not the only one to mix Japanese feudal/medieval culture with contemporary culture elements, of course: others had their own take on the themes and ideas: Karakuri Kengō Den Musashi Lord (Musashi, the Samurai Lord)…
I’ve been thinking about the Samurai Pizza Cats recently in the context of the Ganbare Goemon series—especially about whether the anime series had any kind of influence on the Goemon games.
