Kirby Accoutrements
Jack Kirby believed in heroes with accessories
@larrykingundead You're right. Underappreciated as all hell. He didn't do a lot for Marvel, but check out his Punisher. Barreto's Frank Castle LIFTS.
The Deathblow/Wolverine crossover was a nice surprise. The Aron Weisenfeld & Richard Bennet art team produced a richly stylistic comic.
As superhero fans, we sometimes overanalyze story logic and debate ludicrous story turns (especially on Twitter), but you just gotta take a step back and remember:
Masks like these are acceptable identity protection in those worlds.
Divine Right
Jim Lee post-Heroes Reborn? Faaaaack, I was all in on it. But what was supposed to be a 25-issue series became an 18-issue series which finally ended as a 12-issue series, with Jim Lee not even drawing the final issues. Damn.
In one of those strange coincidences in life, Mark Gruenwald would pass away just days after the final issues of the first volumes of Avengers & Iron Man.
As the cover blurb states, "End of an Era" indeed.
This issue of X-Men had some water cooler buzz in its day. Joe Kelly & Carlos Pacheco turn the tables around on Wolverine by having unpredictable new teammate Marrow stab him through the freakin' neck with one of her bone spikes. Good stuff.
I've seen somewhere that Daredevil has the best ratio of Good/Mediocre runs for a Marvel comic.
I submit Green Arrow to be the DC equivalent. What a long string of entertainment Oliver Queen has provided over the years.
@ComicsintheGA Michael Zulli's work gave me the impression that he was a big fan of Kaluta.
I appreciate what Silvestri and Buscema put down on the original Wolverine title, but Adam Kubert was my dude.
