Marx was actually scarier before. Sakurai told the staff that he wanted Marx to be represented as a 'bizarre being'.
When making Smash Ultimate, Sakurai felt like he was really going over the history of the series. He feels that the quality of the stages and characters has dramatically improved over the series' lifetime.
Ridley was perhaps one of the most difficult fighters to implement because of his size.
Sakurai decided to have his arms and legs bend like his NES/SNES appearances to still give him the impression he was big.
Inkling's concept revolved around managing how much ink was left. This concept in itself was very difficult to implement and the result is the ink system we see in Smash Ultimate. Sakurai did consult with the Splatoon team in order to decide how the ink should act in Smash.
It's a bit early, but I want to wish everyone a happy new year! Thanks for sticking with me through 2018.

It looks like a mix of the Mii Costume and the original art for Geno.
The yellow part of the cape is built into it, instead of being a separate piece like the Mii Costume. I feel that Sakurai would keep that if Geno was a full character.
The chest also looks higher than both.
I really want Don-Chan, the drum from the Bandai Namco's Taiko games to be into Smash. Here's a short thread on why.
I should also mention that the Nintendo Dream states that the online mode is undecided for Sonic Mania. So it may or may not happen.
