Omegamon's chest Bandai artwork first showcased a symbol that merges the ones of Courage and Friendship, while Toei's artwork and those inspired by it showcased a kind of crystal. Now we have even art that merges the two concepts.
Watanabe explains the logic behind that as just one of the many things that being made of data allows Digimon to do, yet I need to say that it's still just one of the possibilities for such a thing and is what I think Habu had in mind when he talked about epistemology.
Like this card drawn by As'maria showing Dukemon using the shield as if it was a normal shield, not as something that sprouts out of its arm directly as in the official setting material, they just didn't know of that..
This didn't happen with every Digimon, but some of them like Plesiomon got used in anime, games, and cards with the forehead in black, white, and even blue.
However, his style ended up making some misunderstandings. Watanabe uses a lot of shading and shadows, it was something he needed to do in order to cut development time, but it's basically now part of the "Digimon feel".
And Watanabe has a very distinct look that reflects a lot of his ideas for what a Digimon should look like, like the various belts that he puts in Digimon, that would reflect in various Digimon with "Death-X-DORUgoramon" being basically made of belts.
@Karn_EX @Fairi_digimon92 For Venusmon there was two focus. The first was on the face that could be barely seen and in how Venusmon's buttocks should be. That wasn't the first time we got to know a bit in detail of how these arts were made...
@Karn_EX @Fairi_digimon92 An interesting part of those are that WiZ took a lot of care for those arts to be sure that they fit the settings of Digimon. The artist that made this one said that they got an sketches from WiZ showing Ofanimon's face in order to base the reveal on that.
@Mattatiasx7 @Fairi_digimon92 This kind of explains why there was a redesign for Neptunemon in order to fit this request for a "shark-like" Digimon. What this has to do with this? They were wondering if Grand Dracumon should count as one or not, Watanabe thinks it doesn't.
It was an interesting moment to play "Digital Monster Ver.S ~Digimon Tamers~" one day, start making this blog post, and the next day, we had Ghost Game showcasing that scene that made me remember this. It was at that moment that I decided to release this blog this week. https://t.co/F4EuSjUhCz
