Today’s research: If anyone in Indy is interested in modeling (paid) for a Mucha/Nouveau-styled piece and can shoot this week, please let me know. Shoot me a DM for details.
The Clockmaker: 2012. Oil and pencil on canvas. 48"x48".
Father Time: 2016. Oil and pencil on wood. 24"x36".
Two different takes on the same concept. I wasn't happy with the first and my model looked the part, but couldn't get the pose I wanted, so I redid it myself years later.
The Little Prince. 2008-2014.
Oil, pencil and pastel on paper and wood.
Leviathan. Private commission. 2013. Watercolor and pencil on paper. 18"x24".
Me modeling for Father Time: 2016. Oil and pencil on wood. 24"x36". And Rorschach: Private commission. 2020. oil, pencil and ink on paper. 11"x17". Photo-reference is an integral part of my work. I'm an illustrator that wants things believable, but not photo-realistic.
The Endless commission sketches: Despair and Death. 5”x7”. Graphite and charcoal on toned paper. I’ll try to get a couple more done today.
Captain Shelley Neptune. Prelim draft. Graphite, colored pencil, charcoal and marker on toned paper. 11"x14".
Captain Shelley Neptune is all done. This is a preliminary draft for what may end up as a larger, poster-size illustration. She’s for sale, so if you want her, DM me. 11”x14”. Graphite, colored pencil, charcoal and marker on toned paper.
John Atkinson Grimshaw. 1836-1893.
I first became a fan of his land and cityscapes with their moody, humid lighting, but his fairies, while not as dominant in his oeuvre, are just as striking and wonderfully luminous.
Unfinished Harley portrait. 2016. I've never been a fan of the blue/red color scheme for Harley. I'm diehard black and red, but I wanted to see what I could do with it. oil and pencil on parchment. 9"x12".
