When at last they were safely home again, Minnie laid Rita and Jonadab tenderly in her own bed.
‘Dear Jonadab, dear Rita, how terrible it would have been if I had lost you.’

Back at the apartment Minnie was up early as usual. She remembered that she had hardly played with Jonadab for a long time. But he was nowhere to be found.
Minnie ran back as fast as she could to rescue Rita. A great commotion followed.

Minnie had not even noticed he was gone. Only Rita, who was lying forgotten on the windowsill saw him.
He had to go wait until dusk before he flew back to the park. But tonight everything seemed different. Suddenly he felt terribly alone.
What a night that was for Jonadab! At midnight the Queen of the Fairies herself arrived, walking down a moonbeam followed by her attendants. She led Jonadab to sit in the place of honour beside her.

These days Minnie hardly ever took Jonadab and Rita to the park or had them in bed with her at night.
One night when a big midsummer moon was shining in at the open window Jonadab took a run across the roof terrace and launched himself into the blue night sky.

On my birthday Grandma and Grandpa gave me a beautiful doll’s pram. I said ‘thank you’ and gave them each a big hug.
Mum and Dad’s big bed is an even better place to bounce. But Dad doesn’t much like being bounced on in the early morning.
