Christmas Eve came at last.

Alfie put a little plate of snacks on the hearth rug for Father Christmas in case he felt hungry. He was worried that their fireplace wasn’t big enough for Father Christmas and his sack of presents to get through, but Mum said she was sure he’d manage

Mae sang very loudly then she saw somebody coming in late at the back of the room. It was Dad! He was smiling the biggest smile of all. Mae forgot she was in a play... she waved so hard that her chair began to wobble...

‘Good old angel Gave-you!’ said Dad when it was all over.

‘You could be the angel Gabriel. That’s a very special angel, a very important part.’

‘I’m going to be the angel Gave-you’ she told Frankie later. ‘A very special angel.’

From Angel Mae and the Christmas Baby

Mrs Foster told everybody that they were going to act in a play about baby Jesus being born.

Mae looked into the wooden box which Mrs Foster had made into a manger for the baby Jesus.

‘I’ll be baby Jesus, then’. She was sure she’d fit into the manger if she tried very hard.

This week we will be looking at Angel Mae and the Christmas Baby. The story stands alone, and is also included in the Snow in the Garden collection.

Lucy and Tom are far too excited to go to sleep. How can you get to sleep when Father Christmas may be coming? But somehow or other they do. When they wake up it’s very early and still dark.

Lucy and Tom go to the market with Dad to choose a tree. There are crowds of people. The lights are shining out and the shops and stalls are full of exciting things.
