The picture on the frame is a "Straw snake (Mugiwaraja)," a snake-shaped amulet to ward off misfortune. It was a popular souvenir of pilgrimages to Fuji, but due to the bustle of the pilgrimage route, the snake tongue was often gone by the time the pilgrims took it home.
