They sure are everywhere - usually hiding behind a statue of Marcus Aurelius etc. and pretending to be a paragon of civility. Just ignore them and keep on keeping on Chapps, you rock 💪

A Parthian rhyton, or drinking vessel.

Produced c. 1st century BCE, it takes the form of a roaring lion leaping out of the silver rhyton. It is decorated with a gold mane and inlaid garnet eyes.

A Fayum mummy portrait of a girl from Roman Egypt, dated c. 120 - 150 CE.

Made from sycamore wood, it was produced in wax encaustic paint.

Almost entirely, yes! So sad. It isn't known if it was destroyed by American bombs or German artillery, but once a fire started in the museum all that was left were the bronze and marble decorations.
