St. Andrew, Apostle (60)
Brother of St. Peter, at first a disciple of St. John the Baptist, was among the early followers of Christ. According to tradition, St. Andrew preached throughout Greece and Asia Minor. He was martyred on an X-shaped cross in Achaia, in southern Greece.

He convoked and presided over a council that condemned monothelitism. He was seized and taken to Constantinople where he was publicly humiliated and tortured. Banished to the Crimea, he was weakened by his imprisonment and died shortly thereafter.
