Spike Brandt being the 2D animation director for Space Jam 2 is funny to me because he and Tony Cervone were supposed to be the animation directors for a version of the sequel WB was trying to make after the original was released.

And, now that he is, he REALLY delivered.

You know what looks to be one of the major things that looks to be an improvement from the original in the Space Jam 2 trailer?

The comedy.

Whereas the original had lots of gross out, slobber, and innuendos this has good visual gags, decent slapstick, and some funny lines.

I love how the website for Space Jam 2 is like:

“Yeah, we know the website for the original movie is so historic and has been here so long that we know getting rid of would be a crime. So, we’re going to put a link to it right on the front of our homepage”.

Spider-Verse is trending, so I’m just going to remind you all that Spider-Ham and Peni Parker have to be best “CG characters that look 2D” I’ve ever seen.

I almost had to do a double take on whether they were CG or 2D when I first saw them.

My favorite type of sequels that tend to outrank how much I enjoy the original movie are the ones where they go all out with the weirdness and scope by doing things they couldn’t do in the original because of setup or they just want to really take what they have and push it.

I’ll say this.

I hope Tom and Jerry is successful enough to get a sequel and pulls an “Angry Birds Movie 2” where the first one is flawed yet fun but the sequel is better and more realized in what it is.

Tim Story even said he has ideas for a sequel with other T&J characters.

The kings of over the top slapstick and the core originators of pure cartoon violence.

A duo who truly show that silence is golden.

They’ve made us laugh and will continue to do so.

The more I think about the great concept art from the previous scrapped version of Sponge On The Run, how beautiful the animation in the movie was, and how it could’ve serviced this insanity instead the more I wish they went with THIS version.

This could’ve topped Out of Water.
