I think wack-a-mole healing is more of a problem in the DM's head than something the players dislike. I think for them, it's riveting knowing how close their beloved character is to an untimely death. #DnD
I recently saw a 'Learn #DnD for New Players' handout that was 80+ pages long!! Ugg😣That's not helping, that's creating a barrier.
IMO the best way to teach folks is to get them *playing* right away!

Petrified is a rarely used condition in #DnD, but I'm glad it's on the list.

I think a whole lot of folks overlook that the #DnD ranger has an incredibly potent form of skill expertise already. All you have to do is frame the check in terms of your favored terrain.

Last #DnD session I had a lightning trap that dropped a character from full HP to 0.
