#WorldOrangutanDay! Charcoal #drawing by one of my favourite animal artists of the 19th century - Joseph Wolf, 1820-1899. Dating from 1851, this #drawing forms part of @ZSLLibrary's art collection. Orangutans are now critically endangered mainly owing to habitat loss. #SciArt
Missed @Riverflies monitoring again 😞but @I_HWSylph went & said it was very successful 😊 Lots of invertebrates, more cased caddis than usual & bullhead fish in each sample. So celebrating with bullhead from Donovan's 'Nat. Hist. of British Fishes' Vol. 4, 1806. @FriendsRivCrane
For #WomensHistoryMonth I gave a talk on over 300 years of `Women in Zoology' to Richmond Scientific Society. If you missed it, do take a look at the summary in their newly issued Autumn 2019 Newsletter (NL 104)https://t.co/lZDo8IwBPN #WomenInSTEM @BritSciAssoc #HistoryofScience
Just heard @EmmaMilnes1 on PM #Radio4 talking about #books in @ZSLLibrary. Feel an overwhelming need to borrow the #caterpillar book which has never been borrowed! I just love illustrations such as this by Maria Sibylla Merian, they almost always feature a caterpillar. #sciart
Happy #WorldChocolateDay2019. I tried to combine more than one of my interests in just one tweet - chocolate & women and zoology. Here is a wonderful engraving of a cocoa plant & insects from Maria Sibylla Merian's insects of Surinam. @ZSLLibrary's copy dates from 1726. #sciart
Just had to tweet these rainbow lorikeets in support of #PrideInLondon #Pride #LGBTSTEMDay. From Volume 5 of Gould’s 'Birds of Australia', 1848
