The Dyane was also pictured careering on an unmade road past a nonchalant farmer. The carefully-chosen text still strikes a chord with its reference to 'the sheer pleasure of driving an utterly simple car'.

For a time Vauxhall had double access to the Canadian market, with Pontiac dealers selling Vauxhall-badged cars, while Chevrolet ones also sold them as the GM Envoy. The second-generation Envoy is shown here, with a look borrowed from the FB Victor VX4/90.

Improving safety standards was a key aim of the new model, which included a roll-over bar designed to be deployed in fractions of a second. There was a detachable hardtop as well as the electro-magnetic fabric top, while the interior was designed for maximum safety and comfort.

Alongside these advanced models, Jowett also kept its traditional Bradford van range in production after WW2: this is a 1952 brochure. Sadly the writing would soon be on the wall for the plucky independent company, and a multitude of issues led to voluntary liquidation in 1955.
