Although antiquated underneath, the Ariette had a modern body by noted industrial designer Philippe Charbonneaux. The range included an estate car, notable for its 500kg carrying capacity, plus a van and truck. This minimalist brochure seemingly had nothing to say about the car.
Occasionally I feel the need to share something really obscure, so here's an early-'50s brochure on the Rosengart Ariette. Made in Paris, it used an ancient 747cc engine based on that of the 1920s Austin 7, which Rosengart had built under licence pre-WW2. #carbrochure #Rosengart

Improving safety standards was a key aim of the new model, which included a roll-over bar designed to be deployed in fractions of a second. There was a detachable hardtop as well as the electro-magnetic fabric top, while the interior was designed for maximum safety and comfort.
Alongside these advanced models, Jowett also kept its traditional Bradford van range in production after WW2: this is a 1952 brochure. Sadly the writing would soon be on the wall for the plucky independent company, and a multitude of issues led to voluntary liquidation in 1955.

The original Rodius, sold from 2004-12, was one of the most unusual-looking cars of the modern era and is certainly hard to describe objectively. The strong opinions it provoked may have been behind the decision to move to the more neutral Turismo name in Britain.
The line-drawn illustrations show the Wartburg was aesthetically the match of many western 1.0-litre models of the day, inside and out. Ironically the brochure is from just after the Berlin Wall went up, increasing the isolation of the DDR and heightening east-west tensions.
While the later, square-cut 353 is the archetypal Wartburg, East Germany's most exported marque had an earlier incarnation, the rather stylish 311, made from 1956. This Belgian brochure features the 1000R and better-equipped President saloons. #carbrochure #DDR #Wartburg
