Folks tend to think of the Norman fleet invasion of England in 1066 & the Spanish Armada invasion of 1588. However there was another plan in 1348 where French Lords stopped fighting each other & united building a fleet to take the fight to England. But the Black Death stopped it!
Cistercian houses had a set Plan Dundrennan Abbey (Dumfries & Galloway) HS info board Newbattle (Dalkeith) watercolour 1991 & Alan Sorrell's reconstruction of Melrose. For some reason Melrose was a backwards Plan. Even Byland (Sorrell) in England followed the usual site Plan.
Before working at Tantallon Castle in 1981 and being mad about Castles and medieval armour. I was mad on the TV shows of Doctor Who, Space 1999 and the weekly comic of @2000AD with Judge Dredd. Some of my comic story drawings from 1979 and Dalek comic idea from 2006.
Heraldry has meaning. After the Battle of Teba in 1330 (James Douglas throwing King Robert's heart). The Bruce heart badge was added to the Douglas heraldry to remember this event and scare their enemies because of their fame in combat.

In 1356 Battle of Poitiers. Archibald Douglas & his Cousin William 1st Earl of Douglas fought for the French King John against the Auld Enemy. Although captured along with King John, Archibald pretended to be a Cook's boy dressed in his Master's armour to escape ransom.
