very blown out. However in the actual piece it's mainly midtones so that my rider and the background can still be important in the visual hierarchy of the image! THIS WAS HARD. It's hard not to paint an explosion like an explosion but still make it look like one.

Some of my refs vs final for the piece!

Something my friends taught me on this; the concept of 'flagging'! Flagging is having a large value/hue mass behind a focal to pop out the focal more. For example, here, if this image were taken with a camera the explosion would be-

Tortahl lost a claw checking to see 'is the interplanar lava hot?' and Comacastora saved a bunch of Hearthingtide pageant actors from their magical special effects gone haywire.

So @lake_demonui had the great idea of doing a DnD Secret Santa One-shot! We all gave each other a character description, drew our partner their character in secret, and last night we got to show our art and play in a holiday themed one-shot!! ❄️❄️
