Having exclusively read the ecchi bits of the Hybrid × Heart Magias Academy Ataraxia light novels, I will now confidently state that it is an underrated masterpiece. Incredible work of culture.
Oh, speaking of light novels that explore race/identity issues, I'm reminded of how I felt reading 86 volume 8.
The way that volume explored the feelings around diaspora in such a touching way really stands out.
Okay, now that we know pretty much all of Roswaal's deal in the anime now, I'm looking back on Re:Zero Ex 2, and the female Roswaal ancestor in that one is even more goated in retrospect
The art for the Tensura collaboration with SINoALICE is really neat. Can't fault that game for its art.
I dunno how to express this, but Otherside Picnic is a really well-written book in its own right, and it never needed an anime or even illustrations to paint a vivid picture. You should try reading the book even if the anime's production underwhelmed you!
If you like the idea of a story of a man with deep regrets being reborn into a fantasy world but don't want to deal with the horniness and inappropriateness of Mushoku Tensei, read Faraway Paladin. It's a beautifully translated and cathartic story with a classic TRPG aesthetic
I am halfway through Mushoku Tensei volume 2 and I have no idea how to explain why I like this so much.
I have no rebuttals for the common criticisms, but I get a greedy feeling from reading it. Also Eris is a cute.
If you liked the anime of Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, definitely pick up the light novels. A big part of the appeal of the series is the banter, but in the anime it's translated really stiffly. The characters will come alive in a new way if you read the books.
Just watched The Legend of Hei, a Chinese animated film that recently got a dub in Japan. Holy fricken hell this was amazing!! Such a cute story paired with amazing sakuga. Genuinely the best animated thing I've seen all year next to Heaven's Feel
