@upstart_rising @theretrobyte This is interesting to me as, until now, I'd thought that Arkanoid tune was its own thing. I was totally unaware of any other game having a tune that sounded like it. (But heck, in the 8-bit era, anything could be a wholesale rip-off or Jarre, Floyd, or anything else really) 😁
@TheGavNinja @C64Retweets Yeah .. though I always wished the background had been black, rather than white. So much easier on the eyes. 😎
@OrielleVanya But really, why stop there?
I wouldn’t object to a Lord of the Rings trilogy length set of movies of Danger Mouse.
I’m tired of Marvel and DC characters. I want Danger Mouse.
😎
@MonstersGo But back to the original topic:
Yup, the C64 has more muted colours than, say, the ZX Spectrum. 🤔 The Amstrad is in the middle. Then the Atari just shows off with its wide array of colours. That was the beauty of 8-bit machines: their arbitrary, rigidly-defined differences. 😄
@MonstersGo So yeah. Everyone launch their favourite VICE emulator. Go to Settings -> VIC-II and choose your favourite palette. (Or define your own.) Then break out those CRT controls and crank that saturation up to your hearts content. Let those reds explode on the screen.
😎👍
@MonstersGo When I was a kid, and had a real C64, it was the early PAL model, with slightly different palette to all later revisions. So I've never been entirely happy with the default emulator colours. The first thing I do with VICE is change the palette to Pepto NTSC Sony. I like that one.
@miggybaz @KariLawler So, was this enough of a tweet-storm over-explanation to a simple question? 😄
(All the old DblPAL screenshots from the mid-90's were captured on my A1200 or later A4000 .. Everything PAL and Picasso96 was captured from WinUAE. I'm all virtual-retro now.) 😮
@miggybaz @KariLawler At some point other, fancier icon formats started to take over (new/rom/png-icons), but I just liked sticking to the old MagicWorkbench set. It came with a ton of nice defaults, and Aminet has so many more. And stuff like the emulator and half the game drawers I did myself. 😎
